County Sheriff's Office
The Hardy County Sheriff's Office provides
a variety of services to the nearly 13,000 residents of the county
and the hundreds of thousands of visitors who travel through and
visit our area each year.
County Treasurer
The Sheriff is the County
Treasurer, responsible for collecting and disbursing all fees, taxes
and other revenues due the county.
Real Estate and Personal
Property Tax Collection
The Office
of the Sheriff-Treasurer maintains all tax records and collects all
taxes that are assessed on real estate and personal property located
in the county. Annual real estate tax collections total
approximately $5 million and taxes on personal property amount to
about $1.5 million.
Hardy
County sheriff's deputies serve as bailiffs in the Circuit Court,
the Magistrate Court, and the Family Law Court. Bailiffs are
responsible for courtroom security, assisting the judge, jury and
witnesses, and transporting prisoners. Deputies also serve
criminal and civil process, including summons, warrants, writs and
other court orders and notices.
Law
Enforcement
The Hardy
County Sheriff's Department is the primary law enforcement
agency throughout the county's 576 square miles, except in the towns
of Moorefield and Wardensville, which have their own police forces.
Deputies are also the county humane officers.
Licenses
and Permits
The
Sheriff's Office provides limited Department of Motor Vehicle
services for citizens to renew motor Class A and G motor vehicle
licenses, and is the agency for processing and issuing concealed
weapons permits.
